To set the stage this movie is taking place in 1971 at a tiny all-women’s Catholic college in Philadelphia that is on the verge of closure and who’s gymnasium just recently burnt to the ground. In walks Cathy Rush, a woman ahead of her time, to apply for the coaches position. As a new wife and against cultural norms that would have her staying at home she sets out on this venture. She finds no gym and very little support from the school in any way shape or form. At times it looks like the Macs don’t have a prayer but with the help of Sister Sunday, a booster club of elderly nuns, and the determined team the coach creates a new game. Take a look at the trailer below.
After a long day today I sat down to watch this movie. The beginning was a little slow but it really all came together pretty quickly and I was hooked. I was really into the movie talking to the characters and letting them know of my disapproval of their sour personalities (the elders at the church) and rooting for the underdogs the entire time. I felt the coaches frustrations as I was an athlete in school I could relate to her feelings and as the movie was coming closer to the end I was enthralled and teary eyed as well. My daughter joined me for the last half of the movie and she loved it as well!! We both give this movie two thumbs up. We have really been enjoying these movie reviews as I am leery of allowing my children to watch much of what is offered on public TV anymore. Beside the ridiculous commercials for Viagra and the likes we have shows that top the charts like “2 and half men” and that show I don’t even know the name something like “2 Poor Girls” or something. I don’t know but I am not an approving mama. I do, however, approve and really enjoy these movies.
Great job to everyone and now YOU can enter to win a copy of this movie for your home collection. Please use the Rafflecopter form below to submit your entries and good luck. Open to US residents 18 years+ and ENDS 3/13 at midnight.
