Introducing Hugo the Happy Starfish
Hugo the Happy Starfish “The Last Bully” by Suzy Leibermann
Hugo is a little starfish and so it’s not surprising that in this story he comes across several bigger fish in the ocean. Sadly, they are bigger fish with the wrong attitudes – they’re bullies! After seeing his friend getting bullied, Hugo decides enough is enough. He forms the Anti-Bully Club and teaches the bullies a valuable lesson about respect.
I love this series, written by Suzy Leibermann, that stars Hugo the Happy Starfish and the many lessons he learns and shares. This program is particularly aligned with the aims and values she upheld as a teacher of cultural art and foreign language at a prestigious International Baccalaureate World School. In our home reading is a big part of our lives. I love reading and think it is key in educating our children and want my children to also grow to love reading too. Books that not only tell a story but help teach something are my favorites! I personally prefer reading “How To” books myself to any other venue but enjoy reading other things as well. These “Hugo” books teach lessons to our children in a fun way so they don’t even realize they are learning something. We typically discuss what we have read after we read it so I can see just want they picked up from the stories and make sure they understand everything correctly. This book did not let me down.
The key theme behind the HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH series is that building character based on a positive attitude leads to a happy, self-confident and successful human being. I have written this exciting series of children’s books to help educate children about their feelings, their attitude, their choices, and the consequences that follow. I was happy to hear that these children’s books are available in 7 languages as well! I think education across the globe is essential.
In addition to the lessons in the stories their website features worksheets and fun online games as well, HERE.
