Shine Bright Kids - Atlanta, Georgia

About the book

Willow is so excited that the Over-the-Top Circus has finally come to town! The only problem is, that when left to her own devices, she can’t say “no” to some good things. One the way to the show, she is distracted by enticing treats and fun that she just can’t turn down. Willow arrives late and is sad to find that, not only has she run out of time, but money, and she won’t be able to enjoy the pink cotton candy she’s been dreaming of. Willow is given valuable advice and a second chance and is ultimately taught the lesson that sometimes in life you have to say “no” to good things to end up with something great!

In My Opinion

The boys and I loved it. The hard-cover book itself if gorgeous as well. The title is written in a metallic purple color that really shines like wet paint and then Willows headband, shirt and the cotton candy are all glittery and shimmer in the light. sparklesThe author, Christy Ziglar, is the niece of the legendary motivator, Zig Ziglar. She helps others shine their brightest as a financial advisor. She also developed a financial literacy program for first and second graders. Then she became inspired to write this great story.

My boys could really relate to the story and sat staring eagerly waiting for me to turn each page. Both myself and my children have an ice cream weakness and would also find it hard to say no to ice cream. ice creamThey also thought it was pretty awesome to go in the cage with all the cool birds.

I could see that sadness on their faces as they related to how Willow felt when she realized what had happened and that she didn’t have money for cotton candy and she had missed the show.

cryingWillow was very lucky when the very kind ringmaster came out to her and talked with her.

He explained to her that sometimes we have to say “no” to the little things that are good to end up with a big thing that is really great! He told her everyone deserves a second chance and gave her the last ticket to the next nights show.

You can bet that when Willow left her house on the way to the Circus the next day that she had learned to say no to the little things. She ended up with an AMAZING surprise at the end and shouted “This is SUPER AMAZING!”. You will have to read the book to find out what happens.
