Product Description(Movie only)

A romantic-drama, OLD FASHIONED centers on Clay Walsh, a former frat boy who gives up his reckless carousing and now runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance as well as for his devout belief in God. When Amber Hewson, a free-spirited young woman with a restless soul, drifts into the area and rents the apartment above his shop, she finds herself surprisingly drawn to his strong faith and noble ideas, which are new and intriguing to her. And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Ultimately, Clay must step out from behind his relational theories and Amber must overcome her own fears and deep wounds as the two of them, together, attempt the impossible: an “old-fashioned” and God-honoring courtship in contemporary America.

My Review

004It is about time something like this has been released. What a refreshing and amazing DVD. Everyone seems so busy these days and into the next new techie gadget but the “good ole days” weren’t so bad. I have talked about missing many of the ideals from the past and chivalry is one of them. With teen pregnancy and divorce rates there is clearly something wrong with the way things are going. We are raising our children up to be godly adults and I want my daughter to find a guy with these ideals and I am afraid it is going to be hard to do and I hope she has the patients and determination to wait. I also am raising my two gentlemen up to be these kind of men and I hope they find godly wives. This movie wasn’t just a boring, easy to determine what happens next kind of movie. There is a lot of drama and past lives and roller coaster emotions that made it just a phenomenal movie! There was one part in the movie that had me concerned for a few moments when Clay’s friend was having a bachelor party before his wedding and some guys at the party had hired a stripper to come over. The music started and she undid a couple buttons and I was about to turn it off when Clay interrupted and put a stop to it. I should have known better because every movie I have watched from Pure Flix has been family friendly. Pure Flix makes amazing movies. It is rated PG-13 for some thematic events.  I was in tears watching the previews of what’s to come this summer and in the fall. Here is the movie trailer. The Novelization and Devotional follow this giveaway.

About the novelization:  Softcover; 303 pages

Turning his back on his reckless lifestyle, former frat boy Clay Walsh has settled down to turn an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town….and to purse lofty and outdated theories on love and romance.  But when Amber Hewson, a free-spirited woman with a gypsy soul, rents the apartment above his shop, Clay can’t help being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life.  Amber also finds herself surprisingly drawn to Clay, but his ideas about relationships are unusual to say the least, and they bring to light her own deep wounds and fears about love.  They say opposites attract, but can Clay and Amber move beyond their differences and their pasts to attempt an “old fashioned” courtship?

About the devotional: Softcover; 222 pages

Contrary to popular opinion, being “old fashioned” doesn’t mean you’re dull or unromantic.  In fact, a true old fashioned relationship can be more exciting and romantic than anything you’ve ever experienced!  So what does it mean to do things the old fashioned way?  Sure, it means opening doors, holding out chairs, and taking things slow.  But a true old fashioned romance goes much, much deeper than that.  Inspired by the motion picture Old Fashioned, this book will show you how to reclaim the lost art of romance by introducing you to romantic love as God intended it.  Regardless of your past mistakes, where you’ve been, what you’ve done, or where you are now, you can find and create a love that will last a lifetime!  As you work your way through this forty-day journey of inspiring readings and questions for reflection, you’ll discover all the unique and amazing benefits of doing things the old fashioned way.  And before you know it, you’ll be well on your way to creating a love story for the ages.

My Review

The book is a novelization of the movie. I haven’t been able to finish the book yet but I want to get the word out today as it is available now. Chivalry makes a comeback with this story. Rene Gutteridge created the novelization of the screenplay written by Rik Swartzwelder, who plays Clay in the movie. You can purchase the book through Tyndale Publishers on their website Here and watch a video with both Rik Swartzwelder and Rene Gutteridge.

The devotional is a forty-day journey of inspiring reading and questions for 006reflection. This book was created to help people learn the lost art of romance by teaching you the romantic love as God intended it to be. Regardless of our pasts we can create a love for the ages, a love that will last a lifetime. It helps people discover the benefits of romance the “old fashioned” way helping people create their own love story. This book helps us learn to let go of the past and learn that we have to let go of those things we cannot change while learning to do those things that are pleasing to God.

The books are beautiful as you can tell and the devotional was created with an aged look that is perfect! This would be such a great trio of gifts for the young people in your life. What a great gift for our sons and daughters! I think it could be very inspiring to those with broken families or broken pasts that feel hopeless or lost. The devotional is also available from Tyndale publishes HERE.
