Explore life along with Cooper, a fun-loving black Labrador Retriever, whose entertaining adventures help kids navigate the emotions and challenges of everyday living. Created by mother-daughter team Monique and Alexa Peters and inspired by their real-life family dog, Cooper and Me provides adults and children with opportunities for meaningful conversation and tools for constructive problem-solving. Kids will laugh at Cooper’s antics, and adults will appreciate the resilience nurtured in their children.
Cooper and Me is a cute series that currently has several books to choose from as well as a Cooper plush puppy, backpack and CD’s. The prices are crazy cheap with CD’s only costing $3.99, and the books are $12.99, the plush puppy and Cooper and Me limited edition backpack come in at $19.99 each!
They really LOVED it! At the end of the story there is a page where you can record some stats about your own child’s first day of school (which I thought was a really great and super sweet idea). The “Cooper and Me” books are not just stories though as they are also educational books that go along with Common Core Educational Standards and each book has it’s own Reading Guide. At the end of this story there are a couple different sections. First is Life Lesson that talks about dealing with separation anxiety and new places. Next is a section called Connections that asks questions to the child reading the book like, “The little girl is not happy going to school. Have you ever felt this way?” and then a section I really like called Learning Together, where you continue to ask your child questions to see if they really absorbed what was read to them like, “Who is the little girl’s best friend?” and “What kind of activities do they do together?”. I really, really enjoyed this story as did my children and love that it goes beyond just being another kids book and wants to engage the children and goes along with the Common Core Educational Standards! They also have printable coloring and activity pages on their website HERE.
The story behind Cooper and Me also offers an inspiring example of families working together to help others. In addition to helping young children gain emotional resilience and confidence through their books, Alexa and her mom Monique wanted to go beyond to help the less fortunate kids. In their search for an ogaiization to which they could donate a portion of the proceeds from the Cooper and Me book led to a charitable alliance with the Happy Hearts Funds. Happy Hearts improves children’s lives through education and sustainable programs in natural disaster areas.
