If you have been following for a while you know we really like the Hugo the Happy Starfish series and this will make my 7th review for them. Just type in Hugo in the search bar located on the right side of my webpage and you can read them all. The author, Suzy Liebermann created this series to help build character. Believing that happiness can be learned, feelings can be understood and that building character based on a positive attitude leads to happy, content, self-confident and successful human beings, is why she created this exciting series of charming books about HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH.
This particular story is about Enthusiasm AND Self-Control. On the ISLAND OF ENTHUSIASM Hugo learns that Enthusiasm makes the task more enjoyable, however being overly enthusiastic makes you lose your focus and a rude awakening is the consequence. The little starfish learns how to use his enthusiasm wisely and to stay balanced with self-control. Hugo the little starfish really wants to see the real world but has to stop at 14 islands along the way. He makes new friends and learns many valuable lessons along the way and so will your children as you read these stories to them.
We always discuss the stories after we read them so I can understand what they have heard and make sure they understand what was taught through the story. They really enjoy them and sit still through the entire thing and seem to always pick up easily the lessons being taught. The best part is they don’t even know they are learning something they just think they are great stories! Kids learn life lessons like the importance of appreciation, patience, tolerance and optimism amongst others. Trying to teach your children different life lessons can be difficult but Hugo helps make it a whole lot easier.
