Equipment

  • 1 potato peeler
  • 1 sharp knife and a cutting board
  • 1 Large pot

Ingredients

  • 8 Potatoes
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp bacon grease
  • 2 tsp Onion flakes
  • water

Topping ideas

  • Chopped bacon or bacon bits
  • shredded cheese
  • ranch seasoning
  • garlic powder
  • chives
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • First peel and rinse off your potatoes.
  • Slice and chop your potatoes into 1" or smaller cubes.
  • Add the cubed potatoes to a large pot and cover with water. Just enough water to get to the top of the potatoes.
  • Bring the water to a boil and cook until they are tender but not falling apart. Just able to be pierced easily with a fork.
  • Now turn off the heat and add in the butter, bacon grease, onion flakes, as well as, salt and pepper to taste.
  • Toss to combine. Be gentle because the more you mix the smaller the potato chunks will become and the thicker the liquid will become.

Add the toppings of your choice

  • This is up to your preference. You can add anything from shredded cheese, sour cream, to bacon pieces. You can provide all the options and let each individual choose for themselves.

Notes

Kitchen Tips
  • I am using Russet potatoes for this recipe but you can choose your own. I feel like Russet or White potatoes create the best "stew" like liquid for this dish but you can experiment with other types.
    • If you end up with too much liquid you can drain off excess water or if it's too dry add a little more water.
  • The seasoning options are endless and totally up to you. These potatoes are great with onion flakes, garlic powder, ranch seasoning, chives, sour cream, bacon bits. This is totally up to you. Provide all the options and let everyone decide for themselves.
